When it comes to the price of owning a dog, some people just assume that the bigger the size, the higher the cost- but that isn’t always the case- hence the reason why a Great Dane isn’t top of the list! I’ve found that actually food is one of the last expenses that I worry about as a dog owner, and although it’s true to some extent that larger breeds are more expensive to own- it’s not a hard fast rule to judging the finances!

Some of the most expensive parts of dog ownership are vets bills, insurance and grooming. Then on top of that, if you have a busy schedule and need doggy day care or a dog walker, that’s going to infinitely put the price up.

If you’ve read the article on Dog Ownership- the long term costs, you’ll know about the study that Admiral Pet Insurance took out. If you haven’t, check out the link below to see some of the background on these statistics and for more information on working out how much a potential pet will cost you.

Admiral published the below list based on the cost of dog food, pet insurance, a pet plan at the vets, grooming (lowest number of times a year for breed), one day a week dog walker and two days a week doggy day care.
